Transport has been paralyzed in Kahawa west bypass after business owners staged peaceful demonstrations on Wednesday morning claiming brutality from Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS). The business owners woke up and found that the NMS demolished their businesses. It is also alleged that they were not issued notices before the demolition.
The residents are now appealing to the national government to intervene since the Nairobi Metropolitan Services is not hearing their cries. According to one of the business owners, he lamented that “Imagine waking up in the morning only to find that your business has been demolished and your goods have been stolen. Is it the same government that we voted for? Every day we are being told that President Uhuru Kenyatta cares for us, how now?”
The residents have closed the roads and are demanding the government to intervene and compensate for their stolen goods and also provide alternative stalls to start up their businesses. It is also alleged that police have shot one person dead during the demonstrations.
