Kenyans have turned out in large numbers to pay their respects to the late President Mwai Kibaki at his official funeral service. Following the death of retired President Mwai Kibaki, Tanzanian President Samia Hassan has declared two days of national mourning.
They came out in droves, despite the rain and cold, to attend the funeral service.
Members of the public are subjected to severe security screening before being allowed into the stadium grounds, which has been tightened up.
Musical choirs have been chanting poems to Kenya’s third president since the early hours of the morning, setting the tone for grieving Kibaki.
The former President’s remains was transported from the Lee Funeral Home to Statehouse Nairobi.The solemn procession will left State House at 9 a.m. for Nyayo Stadium.
By 10 a.m., the late Mwai Kibaki’s body is due to arrive at the stadium.
According to the schedule, President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta will arrive at the stadium at 10:30 a.m. Kenyans were required to be seated by 8 a.m. to allow for a smooth flow of the state funeral’s program.

“During this two day national mourning, our national flag will fly at half must across the entire territory of the country and all Tanzanian diplomatic missions abroad,” president Samia Suluhu said. The Former President will be buried at his home in Othaya, Nyeri County on Saturday. Military will take the better part of the program and the mass will be left by catholic bishops because Kibaki was a staunch catholic.
