The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)issued a bold ruling on Mike Sonko’s quest for the gubernatorial seat in Mombasa county in the next general elections on Friday evening. The IEBC tribunal ruled that Sonko should not be allowed to run for governor of Mombasa County. The panel reached this conclusion after discovering that Sonko had violated some articles of Kenya’s constitution.

Sonko has stepped out to explain his next move, just hours after the IEBC denied him authorization. Sonko, through his lawyer, stated in a video on his Facebook page that they are now going to the high court to fight the ruling.
He claims they were never happy with the IEBC’s judgment, which is why they are going to court to challenge it. Sonko is optimistic that the Supreme Court will rule in his favor. If the court rules in his favor, the IEBC will approve him to compete for the gubernatorial position in Mombasa County on the Wiper ticket.
